About me

This life, Just Now, Smiling

I grew up in the 1960s and 70s under the influence of my artist father.
After high school in suburban Sydney, I went to Alexander Mackie College of Advanced Education, graduating with a Bachelor of Art Education in 1982. Underlying these years was a deep affiliation with Asian art, particularly the calm grace of Buddhist images. The Sydney Zen Centre offered an introduction to Zen Buddhist practice that gave me the opportunity to further expand my interest in Asian art and culture. This influence found expression in my clay hand-building work that led to a sculpture studio at Tom Bass Sculpture Studio School where I attended for more than four years.

I have been a member of Sydney Zen Centre for 20 years and more recently, been involved in the Illawarra Bonsai Society. in 2011 I attained my Advanced Diploma in Ceramics from TAFE NSW passing with distinction.

In 2012 I was awarded a grant from Australia Council for the Arts to help develop my studio and work practice. This was gratefully put to great use.

I was awarded first prize in Hand Building category in Port Hacking Potters Biannual National Competition 2016.

Also, my bonsai club, Illawarra Bonsai Society recognised my artistic contribution in awarding me the Noel Summerill Perpetual Trophy 2016.
